The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC) has confirmed it will participate at the 2021 summer Olympic Games which are to be held in Tokyo, Japan.

According to Thabani Gonye, ZOC’s Chef de Mission, ZOC will stay guided by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

“We stay guided by the IOC and trust thier judgment as the games going ahead. As such, Zimbabwe will participate in line with protocols in place to deal with COVID-19 at the games.

On Saturday the 12th of this month we held our team management meeting for the Tokyo 2021 Games. Various national federations gave preparation updates for their players that we hope will qualify. These are at various stages of readiness to resume competition to try and qualify.

Obviously everybody all over the world has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and so are we. However, as ZOC we will do our best to support our athletes to prepare and qualify for the games.

We estimate our team to have between 7 to 10 athletes from the following Federations, Athletics, Aquatics, Judo, Golf, Boxing and Rowing,” said, ZOC’s Chef de Mission.
