Vice President and Minister of Health and Child Care Constantino Chiwenga
Chiwenga received the Sinopharm jab on Thursday at a ceremony at the Wilkins Infectious Diseases Hospital in Harare that is set to signal the commencement of the country’s vaccination programme.
The Vice President volunteered to become the first recipient of the vaccine to assure health care workers who are set to benefit from the first phase of the vaccination programme.
Thronged by reporters, health workers, and other government officials at Wilkins Hospital in Harare, Chiwenga went through various stages of the vaccination process leading to the final shot in the arm.
Thursday marked the first day of the vaccination process, beginning with health care workers, police, and other high-risk groups.
The government announced that it plans to vaccinate 10-million people.
Zimbabwe received a donation of 200 000 shots of the Sinopharm vaccine from The People’s Republic of China on Monday and is set to start the inoculation of its citizens against the viral disease.
