The Zimbabwe National Karate Federation has since suspended all planned tournaments due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown restrictions.

“We have suspended all planned tournaments. What we can say as the Zimbabwe National Karate Federation is that we are working on protocols to ensure that we do our best to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” said Joe Rugwete, president of the Zimbabwe National Karate Federation.

Moreso, the president further highlighted that the issue of the resumption of the sport was solely based on government’s approval.

“The issue of the resumption of our professional sport is one that rests with the Sport and Recreation Commission and government as the ban was by way of a Statutory Instrument to protect the people.

Moreover, we will have to wait for government to be satisfied that the environment is safe afterwards that’s when we will announce new tournament dates,” added Rugwete.
