ZIFA resume duty as SRC deny the claim

THE unfolding drama over the suspension of the ZIFA board has taken a new twist with the SRC insisting Felton Kamambo and his colleagues remain suspended despite an appeal lodged by the local football governing body with the Administrative Court.

When two elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers and this could be the case with Zimbabwean football as the raging battle between the local football mother body -ZIFA and the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) intensifies.

This comes after suspended members of the ZIFA Board announced that they had resumed their duties based on an appeal lodged with the Administrative Court.

The appeal lodged by the ZIFA board is according to their statement anchored on section 32 of the SRC Act which provides for an appeal by an aggrieved party.

The ZIFA board members went further to state that the appeal was informed by the need to use local legal remedies to clear their names.

The ZIFA board subsequently met this Thursday with a number of resolutions which include the resumption of preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations and appointment of a new technical department being made.

However, the SRC has come out guns blazing saying the ZIFA board members were ill advised and remain suspended.

SRC Acting Director General Sebastian Garikai said in a statement while the appeal has been noted, Kamambo and his colleagues are still suspended.

The ZIFA board was suspended two weeks ago with the SRC accusing the local football mother of failing to account for public and government funds availed for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations among other charges.
