Civic organization, Izwi Domestic Workers Alliance has come out against the level of Gender Based Violence (GBV) which domestic workers are encountering on a day to day basis.
This follows a damning research which was conducted by the organization and its partners which unconcealed the level of GBV towards domestic workers.
“We discovered that a lot of domestic workers are suffering from GBV which is being perpetrated by both female and male employers. Moreover, they are afraid to speak out because they are afraid of losing their jobs.
However, we are working on a solution to solve the crisis because in most instances if not all when they go and report to the Police they are told to go back and resolve the issue.
We have also realised that some of their employers are powerful people which even the Police are tearful of,” said Maria, assistant manager of Izwi Domestic Workers Alliance.
