South Africa’s newly enacted political party, the Disability and Elderly Person Forum is looking at giving the right representation to the disability and elderly communities in Parliament.
“Since 1994, there hasn’t been any representation of people living with disabilities and the elderly in Parliament that’s why we need the elderly and people living with disabilities to rally behind us so that we can represent them fully.
Moreso, we are going to start on the ground level from the council and municipal level that’s why we are going to participate at the forthcoming local government elections come next year.

However, at this point we are not looking at governing the whole country but just to be that watchdog that ensures that people living with disabilities and the elderly are being represented and their plights addressed,” said Boizee Mkwananzi, spokesperson of the political party.
Although not unique only to South Africa, the southern African country is yet to have a political party that is made up and there to address and represent people living with disabilities.
