Energy expert and Power X CEO, Thembani Bukula, has labelled parts of yesterday’s South Africa Reconstruction and Recovery Plan which was tabled in Parliament by President, Cyril Ramaphosa, as ambitious.
During his deliberation the President promised to come up with a plan that would generate an additional 11 800MW within the next 24 months.
“It’s an ambitious plan, but if this is to happen we need to expedite a lot of things within the next 8 months.
However, it can happen but objections and court cases are likely going to delay certain projects over the construction of transmission sites,” said the energy expert.
The southern African country generates an output of over 40 000MW but of late, the country has been marred by a lot of irregularities within its sole state owned electricity supplier entity, Eskom, which has now resulted in sporadic load shedding and load reductions.
