MDC Alliance stands behind ZINASU president

The MDC Alliance’s Youth Assembly has chastised the arrest of Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) president, Takudzwa Ngadziore.

Ngadziore who was arrested on Friday afternoon and charged for inciting public violence and flouting bail conditions was today denied bail by Magistrate Judith Taruvinga.

“We know  it’s a misnomer to even call Takudzwa Ngadziore’s abduction an arrest. What we all know is that Ngadziore was abducted, tortured and later dumped at Harare Central Police Station and any normal society can never term that arrest.

It is very clear that these thuggery acts of violence on innocent citizens are being organized and coordinated from Shake Shake building.

Moreso, it’s a ploy to intimidate activists from speaking against ills of Emmerson Mnangagwa’s fascist regime. As an Assembly we want to make it clear that this culture of muzzling through abductions must be stopped.

We cannot have our people arrested like chickens ready for slaughter under our watch. The time is now ripe to fight fire by fire through effecting citizens arrest on perpetrators of these ills,” said Stephen Chuma, MDC Alliance, Youth Assembly’s national spokesperson.

Prior to today’s bail hearing, Tapiwanashe Chiriga, ZINASU’s secretary-general, acceded to the torture claims that Ngadziore succumbed.

“He was abducted and tortured by state agents. He was hurting and in a lot of pain,” said Chiriga.

The ZINASU president is being represented by Advocate Webster Jiti of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR).
