Bonnie Venter, co-founder of Transplant Education for Living Legacies, has urged people to consider donating their organs when they have passed on.
A lot of people are not comfortable with the organ donating process due to religious and traditional beliefs.
“They are so many ways of becoming an organ donor but one of the ways is to state that in your will. I know it’s a sensitive issue so one has to think about how their next of kin will relate with the issue.
Globally there is a massive shortage of organ donors because there are so many people who are in need of organs.
However, the reasons why most people are not comfortable with donating their organs is because of public perception, religious beliefs and lack of education awareness that’s why people are not willing to donate their organs.
We need to talk about it more thus, education and awareness as well as sharing information about those who would have received the organs so as to show people the impact of organ donation,” said Venter.
